Sports
Youth Sports (ages 6-10)
The Westside Y provides Youth Sports classes and leagues that will help your child be successful both on and off the field. In our classes and leagues children will work on individual skill development, learn how to work as a team and be introduced to sport specific team strategies. We will provide an environment in which our athletes learn and understand the importance of positive competition, sportsmanship, healthy lifestyle choices and the Y core values.
Youth & Adult Sports
Our Karate classes provide a combination of mental, spiritual and physical training, including basic kicks, punches, and blocks through the Tiakwa style of Karate. Students will learn the foundations of Karate with the 40 basic moves and will progress to using the moves in artistic Kata routines as well as in effective self-defense modes. Students will not only be able to earn the right to test for belt advancement, but also to showcase their martial arts talents by competing in tournaments. Along with learning the physical skills of Karate, training will promote leadership by stressing the six principles of success: modesty, courtesy, integrity, self-control, perseverance and indomitable spirit.
