More than one hundred kids from around the Rochester area came to celebrate the YMCA's Kick off with Kids Saturday.
The event is designed to give urban youths the chance to get outside, exercise and play. And with the help of NFL star and Rochester native Branden Albert, kids had the unique opportunity to take part in the "Survive with Branden Albert" program.
It is a series of athletic challenges which helps to teach adolescents the importance of being active on a daily basis.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were games, bounce houses and the RazorSharks mascot Finley.
James Smith, Executive Director for the YMCA, said, "The approach from the 'Y' is to make sure that we focus on mind, body and spirit. So they're fully aware--so having the youth understand that there is a place for them to come, that they can get physical wellbeing, but also spiritual wellbeing and really express themselves fully is one of the things we want to accomplish."
All proceeds received during the event will be given to the Y's invest in urban youth programs.
