Full Day Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program

 
Universal Pre-Kindergarten is a program for children four years of age by December 1 and entering Kindergarten the following year. A developmental learning approach is combined with fun, values-based activities taught by a NYS certified teacher. The program length mirrors a traditional Kindergarten program of 6 hours per day, 180 days per year. Parents may choose a full day option with on-going care during regular child care hours.

The UPK program is run in conjunction with the Rochester City School District guidelines. The high-scope curriculum is utilized in the Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program to aid in the child’s preparation for Kindergarten. The High Scope Curriculum provides a plan-do-review approach. The plan-do-review approach is combined with fun, values-based activities taught by a New York State certified teacher. Parents may choose a full day option with ongoing care during regular child care hours.

The YMCA Child Care Center at Lewis Street is pleased to provide a Universal Pre-K Program in cooperation with the Rochester City School District. Universal Pre-K is a free, half-day preschool program for any child in the Rochester City School District who turns four years of age by December 1, 2014.

This Early Childhood Program offers early exposure to formal schooling to develop cognitive and social skills; and a respect for cultural and racial differences among children.
