Every year, thousands of children drown due to the inability to swim.

The Center for Disease Control tells us that “drowning remains the second leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 0-14 with car accidents as the first cause. African American children ages 5- 14 are 3 times more likely to drown than their white peers.” What is more shocking is that 60% of kids who drown do so within 10 feet of safety!

These statistics are alarming and the YMCA of Greater Rochester needs your help to address this issue. In the summer of 2016, the Y served approximately 200 urban youth with FREE swim lessons and in some cases also provided bathing suits and towels for them! The plan to continue meeting our Social Responsibility goal can only be met with generous donations from people like you.
