2020 Tri-Series

The YMCA of Greater Rochester challenges all co-workers, families and friends to push their limits and participate in a fun, indoor fitness race. The YMCA Tri-Series is back at our Carlson MetroCenter YMCA, Westside Family YMCA and Eastside Family YMCA.

This year marks 13 years for the Westside and Eastside Family Ys; the Carlson MetroCenter is celebrating 20 years of their Y-Tri. It’s been a tradition for many to compete yearly in the event, like Gael Orr.

She works with Once Again Nut Butter, a long-time sponsor of the Carlson’s Y-Tri. The company sponsors this event because of their love to support local, and their belief in a healthy lifestyle.

Each year, she comes with a group to compete. They make a day of it – carpooling up, getting spots next to each other on the bikes and then head out from a celebratory breakfast after.

“You’ll be delightfully surprised at how fun it is,” Orr said. “You see people there every year, you get to know them, and you cheer them on as they’re competing.”

The event is designed to a perfect fit for any level. Newcomers can experience a low-pressure triathlon in a controlled environment, families can work as a team to be active in the winter and experienced racers, like Orr, can test their personal best.

“The biggest thing it does for me personally as an athlete, it inspires me to keep pushing through some of the toughest parts of my triathlon training,” Orr said.

This is a three-event race, with the goal of covering the greatest distance in the allotted time (with the exception to Westside Family YMCA’s run: see below). Each event will be run in waves; there will be a 5-minute transition period between segments.

  • 15 Minutes swimming in the pool
  • 15 Minutes stationary bike
  • 15 Minutes indoor track walk/run
    • Eastside Family YMCA’s Tri – walk/run will take place on a treadmill
    • Westside Family YMCA’s Tri – walk/run will be a timed 1.6 mile run outside

Space is limited; early registration is encouraged to reserve your spot. Entry determined by receipt of application and fee. Oversubscribed entries will be refunded.

Entry fee includes: t-shirt, post-race refreshments, award eligibility, and child care (pre-registration required). Shower facilities and storage available in locker room, but please bring your own lock.

The YMCA of Greater Rochester’s Triple Tri include a 15-minute swim in the Y’s indoor, heated pool; a 15-minute cycling event on our stationary spin bikes; and a timed run. A new wave of participants starts every 20 minutes.

Tri-Series participants are eligible to win exclusive prizes and awards for top male and female with best combined score from all 3 races. Upon completion of the Tri-Series participants will receive an additional gift.
