Create Your Legacy

Planned Giving Opportunities for the YMCA of Greater Rochester

The YMCA of Greater Rochester Endowment Fund supports critical YMCA programs and services each year. The donors who contribute ensure their philanthropic legacy will provide opportunities throughout the Rochester region for future generations. An endowment gift aligns an individual or family’s passion with our cause – strengthening the foundations of our community. There is no minimum amount to make a gift to the Endowment Fund. It may be a memorial, one-time gift, a series of gifts, a pledge paid over a period of time, wills, trust, gifts of appreciated assets, or a combination of funding mechanisms.

Planned Gifts: There are many types of giving vehicles which will permit a donor to express his or her wish to leave a legacy to the YMCA. The most common planned gifts are outright bequests (made though a will) and life insurance policies naming the YMCA of Greater Rochester as a beneficiary. Other types include:

  • Bequests through a Will or Living Trust
  • Life Insurance beneficiary
  • IRA or Retirement Plan beneficiary
  • Charitable Gift Annuity
  • Pooled Income Fund
  • Charitable Remainder Trust
  • Reserved Life Estate

A Named Fund: A donor may wish to establish a named fund that will exist in perpetuity to support its expressed intent. A Named Fund may be established with a minimum gift of $25,000. A gift agreement will establish the terms for a donor to contribute, and the intentions for funding support. The fund may be added at any time with additional contributions. A Named Fund may also be established with a planned gift.

George Williams Society: Named after the founder of the YMCA movement, the George Williams Society honors those individuals and families who include the YMCA of Greater Rochester in their estate plans or, establish a named fund within the Endowment Fund. Members of the Society are recognized and invited to opportunities annually that demonstrate the impact of the Endowment’s transformational work.
