Active Older Adults at the Y experience a strong sense of belongingness and a network of friends who provide supportive communities for sustained health and well-being. We offer a large variety of fun and interactive group exercise classes that uplift older adults’ spirit, mind and body.

The Y offers a variety of cardio exercise classes that strengthen your heart and lungs while burning calories at a high rate. Whether you’re just starting out or are looking for ways to increase your fitness level, we have a fun class filled with new friends and good music to keep you motivated. Most classes are 60 minutes long and offer exercise options for a variety of fitness levels, so that you can work out at your own pace.

Living healthy is about spirit, mind and body at every age and stage. The YMCA of Greater Rochester offers a variety of mind/body classes to help you relax, strengthen and improve flexibility.

OUTCOME MEASURED – WEIGHT LOSS – SMALL GROUP

TABATA BOOT CAMPTM: This 8 week program strikes the perfect combination of short, efficient workouts, ongoing online support, and motivation in a small group training session. If you seek a program that provides an on-ramp for all levels, produces real results in weight loss and fitness, Tabata Boot Camp is for you!

Taught by a certified Tabata Boot Camp instructor, each workout is based on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to deliver a calorie drenching workout and post metabolic boost. Participants receive a simple and individually formatted program with quick 6-minute web based daily workouts and participate in 2-3 comprehensive weekly workouts at the Y that will result in true, successful weight loss and muscle gain. These workouts are combined with metabolic tracking and 24/7 web support and accountability to get you in the best shape of your life.

SPECIAL POPULATIONS

WORKING WITH PARKINSONS: This class is designed for those who have a limited ability when it comes to walking or getting up from a chair. Classes will include some functional exercises. No floor work is performed in this class. All exercises may be performed in a chair.

The Y offers a variety of strength-training classes that combine the benefits of building strength with the motivation and positive atmosphere of a group exercise class. These classes will increase your muscle endurance, enhance your cardiovascular ability and will develop coordination and balance. Most classes are 60 minutes long and offer exercise options for a variety of fitness levels, so that you can work out at your own pace.

WATER FITNESS

What would the Y be without water? Water exercise, adult swim lessons (it’s NEVER too late) and adapted exercise for those with disabilities or in rehabilitation are some of the water-based activities you’ll find at the Y, where we believe if you can do it on land, you can do some version of it in the water!

Water fitness provides all the benefits of a great cardiovascular and strength-conditioning workout while protecting your joints from excess strain. These classes are designed to help you improve joint and muscle flexibility, balance, coordination and strength.
