LEARNING MORE ABOUT OUR PARTIAL DAY PRESCHOOL

Every month, we will be shining a spotlight on our amazing staff and special members who help make our branch what it is.

Our first highlight is one of our Partial Day Preschool teachers, Angela Lenzo. Angela has been a preschool teacher with the Y going on four years, teaching two-year-olds at our former Southeast Family Y before coming here to Schottland. She has a real heart for young children, and also teaches our 18-30-month-olds.

Here are five quick questions with Ms. Angela:

What do you love most about the Schottland Family YMCA?

I love that Schottland has opportunities for the whole family to come together and play.  My children learned to swim and play basketball at the YMCA, and I love that both the pool and open gym are available any time of day.  Every time we visit as a family, we get to enjoy putting those skills to use!

Why is it important to you to work with kids?

I believe it is important to create opportunities for kids to enjoy positive interactions with peers and caring adults in their community.  I want each of my students to feel that I am one of the many people in their lives that truly care about their growth and will cheer them on toward success!

The thing you like most about being a Preschool teacher is…

The thing I like most about being a Preschool teacher is playing with kids! It is important for two-and three-year-olds to explore and learn through play.  I love coming up with creative ways to engage little bodies as well as minds!  Movement, songs, collaborative work and sensory experiences are all a part of our mornings together.

What is the best part about working for the YMCA of Greater Rochester?

It means the world to me to be part of an organization that nurtures the whole person, “spirit, mind, and body.”

Finally, share one interesting fact about you that people may not know.

You have seen me play the ukulele with my young friends, but did you know that my brother and I both taught ourselves to play the banjo as well?  I have to admit, he has quite surpassed my skill, but it is still one of my favorite instruments to play and to listen to.
