Youth cross country meets once a week for 60-90 minutes of instruction and games. Youth cross country is offered for 7-10 week sessions throughout the school year. Length of session varies by Y location. Two meets are held during the program: one at Genesee Valley Park and another at Camp Arrowhead. All YMCA of Greater Rochester Cross Country programs will join together to run a competitive race at these events.
Youth cross country is designed to provide the opportunity to engage in a pre-competitive, instructional program in which children run on an open air course over natural terrain. The course may include a mix of woodlands, open country, hills, and flat ground. Emphasis is on building stamina and balance.
