Youth tumbling meets once a week for 60-90 minutes of instruction and games. Youth tumbling is offered for 7-10 week sessions throughout the school year. Length of session varies by Y location.
Youth tumbling is designed for students develop strength, agility, flexibility, body positioning, and control through basic skills. Each child will be introduced to the basic foundation of tumbling which include rolling, handstand variations, and cartwheels. Children will participate in small and large groups to foster the social and emotional skills needed to begin Kindergarten. Kids will be introduced to the basic skills of front and backward rolls, handstands, and cartwheels. Through strength conditioning, they will progress to the more difficult skills including front and back walkovers, handsprings, and more. Tumbling class improves coordination, muscle development, and flexibility. This class is designed to focus on the floor gymnastics exercise and also to compliment dance or cheer.
No previous experience is necessary for this program. Children will learn gymnastics terminology and become familiar with gymnastic equipment aiding in strength, balance, and confidence. Children will work on all apparatus (beams, springboard, and floor mats). Emphasis will be on introducing children to skills necessary to continue increased strength, balance, and confidence.
Toddlers will work with coaches to learn basic gymnastic skills. Children will work on all apparatus (beams, springboard, and floor mats) while increasing strength, balance and confidence with the use of nursery rhymes and songs to learn body awareness and movement. We emphasize giving children a positive introduction to gymnastics!
