MY Y STORY: ANDREA’S REASONS FOR GIVING

WHY SUPPORTING THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGN IS IMPORTANT TO HER

Andrea Antonetty has been a part of the Bay View Family YMCA since she can remember.

“My family is three generations at the Bay View Y,” she said. “My daughters went to Day Camp, participated in youth sports and swimming lessons, and we all swam across the bay and we were on the swim team. Now my youngest wants to be a Group Exercise instructor like her mama!”

Antonetty is a Group Exercise Instructor, teaching a variety of classes every week.  And every week, she makes a difference in the lives of members in her classes. But making difference doesn’t end in the studio for her; she’s a strong supporter and believer in the YMCA of Greater Rochester’s Annual Campaign.

“I give because I want every person to have healthy, happy, and meaningful experiences and opportunities at the YMCA.”

And Antonetty has seen firsthand the positive impact the Y and its Annual Campaign makes on the lives of so many people, including in her family.

“The reason that is closest to my heart is the LIVESTRONG program,” said Antonetty. “When my mom was diagnosed with cancer she joined LIVESTRONG at the Bay View Family YMCA. In this program, she got to workout with other people who had cancer and she was led by caring instructors who supported everyone in the program. They became a family and my mom really benefited from LIVESTRONG, even though she once told me her yoga teacher was too easy… I was her yoga teacher.”

The Annual Campaign helps make sure more stories are created every day. More stories of lives changed; because at the Y, families, older adults, and children, can find their place. A place with all the ingredients for a vibrant life. You can find more stories and learn more about the impact here.
