“I’ve been part of the YMCA community for 20 years, first at Eastside after retiring, and later at Bay View where I was inspired by Karen Foster’s classes and began volunteering alongside Marianne Angeline. Over the years, I’ve helped with Senior Christmas lunches, AOA Celebration, the Annual Campaign, the Bay View garden and craft projects in the Community Room. As a former teacher, I love connecting with people and lending a hand wherever I can. What I cherish most about the Y is the sense of community—through exercise, volunteering and special events, I get to stay active, social and surrounded by amazing people.” – Barbara Zoller, Bay View AOA Member
“I’ve been part of the Corning Family YMCA for 30 years, and over that time it’s become my second family. I first joined for the track, knowing walking indoors was safer and healthier than being outside, but what started as a practical choice grew into a place full of friendship, connection and community. Originally from Taiwan, I love participating in as many classes as I can and enjoy seeing the diversity and warmth of everyone here. The Y isn’t just a place to exercise—it’s a place to belong, and I always look forward to events like the In the Kitchen series!” – Miawchyung Lin, Corning YMCA AOA Member
“I’ve been part of the YMCA community since 1968, starting at an earlier branch and I’ve been connected ever since. About 10 years ago, after a major accident, my doctor recommended the Y as part of my recovery. I began with water walking with Lisa and Mary at Bay View and then gentle yoga, using a cane at first, and little by little I was able to do more—eventually joining group exercise classes and never looking back. What I love most about the Y is the people—the smiles, the friendships and the sense of community. At Eastside, I’ve found not only fitness but also creative outlets like art, hiking and the Garden Club. Every day here is a new experience, and I’m grateful for the wonderful people I get to meet along the way.” – Marc Schmitt, Eastside AOA Member
“I’ve been a member of the YMCA for about four years, and I first joined because I needed a place to work out and take control of my health. What I didn’t expect was how much the Y would support me—not just physically, but mentally too. I’m always the first one in the café each day, and I participate in all of the SilverSneakers classes before joining friends in the café after group exercise. Being part of this community has truly helped me get back on a healthier path, and I’m so grateful for the encouragement, connection and fun I find here every day.” – Joann Vauss, YMCA Member
“As soon as I retired, I knew I wanted to join the Y—my mom had started coming before me, and I saw how much she loved it. I joined 5 years ago, and I enjoy being part of the YMCA community because I get to meet new friends and try new ways of exercising. I’m active in the pool, the Wellness Center and our AOA programs and I love helping other members feel safe and welcomed. The staff here are so friendly and supportive, and I enjoy giving back whenever I can. My Y nickname is ‘Social Butterfly,’ and it really fits—I love being involved, connecting with others and helping our events run smoothly!” – Debbie Cordingley, Northwest AOA Member
“I joined the YMCA in April 2024 for exercise in the pool, and I quickly discovered the Euchre Meet and Greet. Now I’m here six days a week because of the nice people and all the different things to do. I love being part of this community—it’s a place where I can stay active, challenge myself and connect with others. I even had fun competing in the Summer 2025 Euchre Series, finishing as the High Scorer! My wife and I are also looking forward to attending the Senior Ball in December.” – Douglas Bailey, Sands AOA Member
“As a 92-year-old, staying active has always been part of my life, and the Y makes that so easy. I come here four days a week for Total Body Strong and Feeling Fit, because I believe in my motto: keep moving.’ The classes are fun, the staff are kind and knowledgeable and there’s truly something for everyone. I love being part of this community, it’s a place where I can challenge myself, connect with others and keep my body strong. And yes, I even hold my plank for over a minute!” – Norma Andzer, Schottland AOA Member
