What is this program?

The prekindergarten (preK) program at the Bay View Family YMCA is five days a week (Monday-Friday) and follows the Webster Central School District (CSD) school calendar. When Webster K-5 students have a day off from school, preK students do not report. Webster CSD preK lottery determines eligibility in the program at the Y. You will be notified via Webster CSD if your child(ren) has been selected.

What time is the program?

8 am-1 pm: Class Time; 1-6 pm Wrap Around Care

Our program is designed for families in the district who need wrap care. Students must attend both parts of the program at the Bay View Family YMCA.

What is the cost of Wrap Care?

The cost is $270 per week for wrap care. This includes access to our School’s Out Camp (dedicated programming for days off of school when parents are still in need of care) and a YMCA of Greater Rochester Family Membership which grants you and your household access to all YMCA of Greater Rochester locations, youth programs, and more!

Experience Scholarships through the Y as well as DHS funding are available for those who qualify.

How do I need to register my child for wrap care?

Once the YMCA receives word from the district that your child will be enrolled, we will send the family a link for registration for the wrap care portion of the program.

What is your food policy?

All families must pack a lunch for their child. The YMCA will provide a morning and afternoon snack each day. Free and reduced lunches are available through the district for students who qualify.

What is the teacher to student ratio?

The YMCA follows Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) guidelines, and this program will have a 1:8 teacher to student ratio. We are currently in the process of hiring an amazing teacher who will bring experience, warmth, and a passion for early childhood education to our program. Our priority is to find the best possible educator who aligns with our commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

How do I communicate with my child’s teacher?

Your child(ren)’s teacher will communicate through newsletters, apps, emails, or in-person meetings. Specific communications will be shared as we approach the start of the school year.

What health and safety measures are in place?

The YMCA of Greater Rochester adheres to all OCFS policies and procedures for operating a childcare center. Those can be found online here.

Are there special education or support services available?

Yes, children may receive services through the school district or early intervention programs.

Will my child be swimming at the Y?

Our goal is to provide some swimming opportunities for the preK program in the second half of the school year. This will allow us time in the fall to establish routines in the classroom and program.
