Our Experience Scholarships are made possible by the generosity of our community. The Y takes every measure possible to forecast funding accurately, ensure that it’s allocated responsibly and that it remains available all year-round.

While each applicant’s financial circumstances are thoughtfully reviewed, all awards are determined within established program guidelines and offer the highest level of assistance available for each applicant.

We understand that a reduced rate may still be challenging for some households, or that previous recipients may see an increase, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to support as many individuals and families as possible.

BEFORE APPLYING: Who Is Eligible?

Scholarship eligibility can only be determined based on the household as a whole. All household residents and total household income must be fully disclosed and supported with verifiable documentation—not just those seeking a Y membership.

IMPORTANT: Altering names, birthdates, or using another household member’s info to bypass submission limits typically result in automatic denial or delay. All submissions are reviewed thoroughly by our department to uphold policies and ensure fairness.

Do not apply if:

  • You have a current scholarship that is still valid for more than 30 days.
    • Applications are reviewed per household on an annual basis. Using each scholarship for its full 12-month term ensures you receive the maximum allowance. To renew a scholarship membership, apply within 30 days of your scholarship expiration date, but not earlier. To start or restart a membership, you can sign up for the remainder of your scholarship period by visiting your chosen branch.

Apply If:

  1. This is your first time applying, or it’s been one year since anyone in your household last applied.
  2. You are renewing a current scholarship that will expire within the next 30 days.
  3. There’s been a major, documentable change in your household’s situation outside of your control since you last applied that:
    •    prevented you from completing your previous application, or
    •    has drastically impacted your household’s eligibility since your approval.

IMPORTANT: Missed emails, busy schedules, short-term illness, or making changes to household members are not considered valid reasons for an exception.

Modifying information to apply before your household is eligible will only extend ineligibility, delaying your ability to re-apply.

If you believe you qualify for an exception but are unsure, please contact us first at Membership@RochesterYMCA.org.

Please answer each question carefully before proceeding.
