WHY JOINING THE Y SHOULD BE YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION

THE TOP FOUR WAYS THE Y CAN HELP YOU MAKE AND KEEP YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

A lot of people (maybe you) are starting to figure out New Year’s Resolutions. There are lots of different goals to make in the New Year: try something new; get back on your fitness routine; start a fitness routine; eat healthier; spend more time with your family. Whatever your New Year’s Resolutions may be, the YMCA of Greater Rochester can help you achieve (and stick with) them all throughout the year.

Here are a few reasons why joining the YMCA should be your New Year’s Resolution:

  1. It will help you become more active.
It is important for both children and adults to get physical activity every day. With hundreds of group exercise classes included in your membership, indoor walking tracks and the latest equipment, and access to personal trainers, there are plenty of ways for adults to get the recommended 30 minutes of activity a day. There are many Adventure Centers and youth sports programs to help kids get their 60 minutes of play.
  2. Creating healthy habits.
It becomes a challenge during this time of year to stick to your healthy eating habits – Christmas cookies and holiday meals are hard to turn down. Let the Y help you get back on track, or find a new plan, of healthy eating. Whether it is signing up for Personal Training or working with one of our dietitians, the Y has a way that will work for you to help.
  3. The Y brings families together.
Things are crazy. You’re wrapping up the holidays and getting back into the groove of work and school. Your family is going in so many different directions. At the Y, we make time for family time. Enjoy “screen-free” nights hanging out at our branches during Family Nights and Family Time.
  4. Find a new hobby.
The Y is much more than just a place to come workout; it’s a community. There are many groups – organized and not – that you can be a part of at many of our branches, including  becoming a volunteer.

The Y isn’t just here to get you started on your New Year’s journey – we are here to help you as you reach each milestone. If you are keeping track of you progress online, let us know! Share updates with us using the #ROCyourY.
