YMCA HOLDING BATHING SUIT COLLECTION DRIVE
SUITS TO BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN, TEENS IN MAPLEWOOD FAMILY YMCA’S SAFETY AROUND WATER PROGRAM
The Maplewood Family YMCA has been offering the YMCA of the USA’s Safety Around Water program for many years and is excited to be partnering with Cameron Community Ministries, Agape Haven of Abundance and Summer Leap this summer. To get ready for children and teens to take part in the program, the YMCA of Greater Rochester is hosting a bathing suit collection drive.
We will be collecting brand new swimsuits and burkinis for all genders and sizes as we will be serving preschoolers through high school students. All NEW bathing suits and burkinis can be dropped off at the Maplewood Family YMCA, at 25 Driving Park Avenue, during regular business hours (6 am-8:30 pm Monday-Friday, 7 am-3 pm Saturday and 9 am-2 pm Sunday).
SAFETY AROUND WATER PROGRAM DETAILS
In the months of July and August, the Maplewood Family YMCA will be hosting their Safety Around Water program. This program, which is grant-funded, is designed to help children and adults learn important skills in and around the water. Those skills include:
- Basic swim skills, like floating, blowing bubbles, the freestyle stroke and the front crawl
- Safety skills, like CPR, identifying a safe place to swim and water rescue techniques (“Reach or Throw, Don’t Go”)
- Survival swim skills, like pushing off the bottom of the pool to resurface (“Jump, Push, Turn, Grab”) and a method of swimming on your front and back (“Swim, Float, Swim”)
