At the YMCA of Greater Rochester, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to discover their potential, feel a sense of belonging and grow into a confident, capable individual. Through our youth development programs, from early childhood through the teen years, we support families and help kids thrive.
BUILDING STRONG FOUNDATIONS FOR CHILDREN TO THRIVE
Every child deserves a strong start, but many families face barriers to affordable, high-quality childcare.
The Y offers preschool, full-day childcare, before and after school care, and school break camps in safe, nurturing environments. Our programs reflect the diversity of our community and support working families with flexibility and peace of mind.
Your support helps more children gain the foundation they need to thrive at the Y and in life.
“After losing my husband, we went through a very difficult period. My children still feel the void of losing their father. During this difficult time, the people around us, including our friends, teachers at school and the YMCA, have supported us a lot.” Learn More

DEVELOPING CONFIDENCE AND ENCOURAGING SAFETY WITH Y SWIMMING LESSONS
Water safety is a life skill every child should have. At the Y, we teach kids of all abilities how to be confident and safe in the water.
As the nation’s leading swimming instructor for more than 100 years, we help children overcome fear, build strength, and develop lifelong confidence.
We offer free lessons and scholarships to ensure every child has access, especially in communities with fewer resources.
Your support makes it possible for more kids to learn to swim, stay safe, and enjoy the water.
“We can trust them in a pool, on a boat or at the lake. A big part of this has been both training and therapy, especially for our son. It’s been a confidence builder, seeing how they meet him where he’s at, with no expectations for him to be like everyone else. It’s not just about making him the best swimmer—it’s about recognizing his strengths, coaching him and celebrating his progress so he can improve and feel good about himself.”

SUMMER CAMP: WHERE ADVENTURES AND FRIENDSHIPS BEGIN
At the Y, summer camp is more than a seasonal activity. It’s a life-shaping experience for kids and a vital resource for working families.
Whether at day camp or overnight at Camp Cory or Camp Gorham, children enjoy creative play, outdoor fun, and time with friends in a safe, structured setting.
Camp helps kids build confidence, resilience and joy that lasts well beyond summer.
Your support gives more children the chance to grow, explore and thrive at camp.
“At Camp Cory, Delilah has a lot of physical and social freedom that she doesn’t have in other places. Her cerebral palsy affects her motor control, making some activities more challenging, but she knows the camp, she knows how to ask for help when needed and we don’t have to worry as much about her safety. Delilah can try new things, make new friends and have independence.”

EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION: PROGRAMMING FOR TEENS
Teens today face academic pressure, social stress and uncertainty about the future. The Y provides a safe, welcoming space where they can build confidence, make friends and grow as leaders.
From STEM and creative arts to service projects and recreation, our programs help teens explore their interests and discover their strengths. Leaders Clubs connect them with mentors who encourage growth, belonging and giving back.
Programs are free at our Neighborhood Centers and available at several branches.
Your support helps more teens gain the skills, support and confidence they need to succeed.
“I suffered through depression and anxiety, and [Leaders Club] has really helped me come outside of my comfort zone. It’s a place where you can do literally anything and never be judged. Everyone will just love and support you, especially the adults.”
– Alina I., Maplewood Family YMCA Teen Leader
YOUR INVESTMENT IN YOUTH DEVELOPMENT MAKES THIS POSSIBLE
Together, we can ensure more children and teens have the opportunities they deserve to learn, grow and thrive no matter their background or circumstances.
