Penfield, NY – For the past nearly two decades, Ray and Erika Hutch have been incredible partners of the YMCA of Greater Rochester, especially at its Penfield location. Their generosity has enabled the Y to serve children, families, adults and seniors in the community, ensuring all have a place to connect, grow and thrive. With their latest gift, the YMCA of Greater Rochester is proud to celebrate Ray and Erika’s transformational philanthropic commitment and partnership by renaming the Eastside Family YMCA – the Hutch Family Branch.

“This is a monumental moment for the YMCA of Greater Rochester,” said Ernie Lamour, President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Rochester. “Without Ray and Erika’s support, we simply would not be able to serve this region in the same way. The Hutch Family created their legacy nearly 20 years ago; we’re now pleased to cement it with the naming of this Y in their honor.”

This gift marks the latest investment in the community from the philanthropic supporters and volunteer partners who have been strong advocates of our Penfield location since its inception in 2006.

Ray’s involvement with the YMCA of Greater Rochester began a few years before that through a charity that provided swimming lessons for youth from the City of Rochester at the Maplewood Family YMCA.

From there, Ray joined the Eastside Branch board and served as its first board chair. Continuing their support of aquatics, the Hutch family supported and named the Hutch Family Aquatics Center at the branch. Nearly a decade later, Ray and Erika continued to demonstrate their commitment to the Y, helping to support the expansion of the Eastside Y through a leadership capital donation, offering a matching challenge to raise additional funds.

Then again in 2025, Ray and Erika pledged their support to the Irene Skalny Childcare Center, to help foster the development of children and family wellbeing, creating a healthier, more equitable community.

Back in 2015, when Ray and Erika were recognized for their dedication to philanthropy, Ray shared the following: “The success of the Eastside Family Branch has far exceeded our expectations. I’ve been here nearly every day since the facility opened and as a longtime Penfield resident, I can honestly say that the Eastside Y is one of the best things to happen to this community in a very long time.”

Today, he couldn’t be prouder of all this location has accomplished, adding “our Eastside Y is approaching its 20th anniversary and I appreciate being involved in this special addition to serve our community.”

The name change will take place over the next several months in phases. Services will continue with no interruptions as the change occurs.
