ROCHESTER, NY – The YMCA of Greater Rochester is announcing the sale of our East Main Street location to another nonprofit in the community, Rochester Regional Health.

It was imperative for the YMCA to find the right community-centered organization to take over this property, one that could make an immediate impact on Center City. Because of their capacity to serve this community, particularly when it comes to health equity, Rochester Regional Health was the right choice.

“At the YMCA of Greater Rochester, we make decisions to better community, and this decision was no different,” said Ernie Lamour, President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Rochester. “As we have since our founding more than 170 years ago, the Y remains committed to the City of Rochester, working with the people we serve to meet their current needs, which today includes fighting food insecurity, providing safe places for children after school, and space for our seniors to come together for mental and physical health.”

In the past four years since shifting our service delivery model at our East Main Street location, the YMCA of Greater Rochester has continued to provide services, programs, and spaces that our community needs. That includes finding purposeful partnerships and collaborations, especially ones that will address the social determinants for health for the residents in the City of Rochester.

“This is an exciting moment not just for Rochester Regional Health, but for the future of downtown,” said Dr. Richard “Chip” Davis, CEO, Rochester Regional Health. “We’re proud to be part of the city’s ongoing revitalization and are committed to creating meaningful opportunities that support the health and well-being of everyone who lives, works, and spends time here.”

As Rochester Regional Health begins to shape plans for this space, it will thoughtfully assess the needs of the surrounding community in alignment with the city’s broader revitalization initiatives.

The YMCA of Greater Rochester will maintain our Association Office at the East Main Street location throughout the summer. It was important for the Y to keep our office and presence in Center City. With this announcement, we are excited to share that we will remain in the City of Rochester, relocating to the Five Star Bank Building in early fall.
