At the YMCA of Greater Rochester, we are committed to removing barriers, promoting equity and helping individuals of all ages and backgrounds engage, contribute and succeed. Through our community-focused programs, we create opportunities that foster connection, expand access and empower people to reach their full potential.

SUPPORTING ALL INDIVIDUALS WITH UNIQUE ABILITIES

When everyone can participate, our whole community grows stronger. The Y creates welcoming spaces where individuals of all abilities can connect, grow and thrive.

Through adaptive swimming lessons, inclusive fitness and enrichment programs, we support independence, confidence and well-being for people with diverse abilities.

Your support helps expand access to programs that foster inclusion and empower individuals to live active, fulfilling lives.

“You can never go through life being negative. I always try to think positive, and I try to help people the same way. So that’s how I go through life. If you put your mind to it, you can do anything you need to do, no matter what your limit is. You see me, I’m in a wheelchair, but I don’t let that stop me.”

EXPANDING ACCESS AND ENRICHING LIVES AT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD CENTERS

The Y’s Neighborhood Centers at Lewis Street and Thurston Road offer free programs that support health, connection and opportunity for all ages.

From food access and youth safety to telemedicine and workforce development, these centers address real challenges and create pathways to wellness and stability.

Your support helps create welcoming spaces where individuals and families can grow stronger and build a brighter future.

“When I found out about Lewis Street, I thought it was unreal. It was such a burden off my back knowing that buses could bring my girls here, where they were safe, having fun and surrounded by people who truly love them. For all we’ve been through, it’s just so relieving to have a place that’s available, willing, able and filled with people who care like family.”

– Lexi N., Lewis Street YMCA Neighborhood Center

EMPOWERING TEENS THROUGH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

When teens engage in civic leadership, they gain confidence, sharpen critical thinking and become active in shaping their communities.

Youth and Government® gives students in grades 9–12 hands-on experience with legislation, advocacy and public service. Through meetings, workshops and state conferences, teens build leadership skills and a strong sense of civic responsibility.

Your support helps more teens develop the skills and confidence to lead and make a lasting impact in their communities.

“Attending the New York YMCA Youth and Government High School Assembly was an incredible experience!  We had the opportunity to represent our schools and community in various government roles, and we’re proud of all we accomplished. All three of our sponsored bills passed, and several of our peers received top honors, including Best Bill, Outstanding Attorney, and Best Firm. We’re especially excited that some of us were selected for national programs. We can’t wait to build on this success next year!”  Learn More
