We’re more than two months into the school year, and we could not be happier. The start of the 2025-26 school year means we’ve started the Before & After School Program (BASP) across 19 different school districts.
So, how are the kids enjoying the program this year? Don’t take it from us; hear from them in their own words:
SCHOOL 46 (AM CARE & PM CARE)
Elias R. at School 46 BASP
How has being in BASP been for you this school year?
It is fun. We play together in the gym. I like to throw the football with my counselors. We also do art projects together as a group.
What do you enjoy most about being a part of BASP?
Seeing my friends from my classroom. I like to play with all of them, and I also get to meet kids from other classes.
What would you tell other kids who have never been to BASP about the program and why they should try it?
It's a fun time. You get to play, eat snack, laugh and learn how to play new games. The counselors are nice, too!
BAY VIEW FAMILY YMCA (PM CARE)
Erick B. at Bay View BASP
How has being in BASP been for you this school year?
Very good. I like meeting my new friends and seeing my old friends.
What do you enjoy most about being a part of BASP?
Mostly seeing the counselors and the Adventure Center.
What would you tell other kids who have never been to BASP about the program and why they should try it?
It's fun. Lots of games, and the counselors are nice.
NORTHWEST FAMILY YMCA (AM CARE & PM CARE)
Tyler L. & Kingston H. at Northwest BASP
What do you enjoy most about being a part of BASP?
Tyler: They have Legos that we’re able to play with, magnets, and they have all sorts of games for us to play, like five-second rule, Connect Four, War and other card games.
Kingston: If you ask one of the counselors to help you with your homework, they will help you. And I like it because sometimes I struggle with my homework because I’m in fifth grade, sometimes it gets hard.
Also, I like to do Just Dance because it’s funny and everybody gets to be silly. And there are snacks. I’m pretty hungry after school, so I’m glad I get to have snacks.
