TRAINING
All Licensed Child Care staff must complete a minimum of 30 hours of training every two years. 15 Hours of such training must be received during the first six months of employment. Training must address the following topics:
- Principles of Childhood Development, including the appropriate supervision of children, meeting the needs of children enrolled in the program with physical or emotional challenges and behavior management and discipline
- Nutrition and Health needs of infants and children
- Child Day Care Program Development
- Safety and Security Procedures, including communication between parents and staff
- Business Record Maintenance and Management
- Child Abuse and Maltreatment Identification and Prevention
- Statutes and Regulations Pertaining to Child Day Care
- Statutes and Regulations Pertaining to Child Abuse and Maltreatment
- Shaken Baby Syndrome
- Adverse Childhood Experiences, focused on understanding trauma and on nurturing resiliency
Below is a list of training requirements based on the responsibilities of your position. The trainings marked as New Hire must be completed within the first two days of employment.

OCFS looks at training hours in two-year blocks, not the program license’s four-year registration period. Since that is the case, an employee can take the same training once in the first two-year block, and once in the second two-year block.
After satisfying all the training requirements for a two-year period, an individual can carry over all training hours earned within the last ninety (90) days (about 3 months) of the two-year period, to count toward the training requirements for the next two-year period. Individuals must still obtain a minimum of five (5) hours of training annually.
Each program must have at least one (1) person on site who is certified in CPR/First Aid during all hours of operation.
There are multiple websites that will require employees to create an account in order to complete online trainings. You will find instructions for each website below.

To be paid for training hours, you must submit completed certificates through the below portal. These are sent directly to your supervisor who will then input hours for you.
