Rochester, NY – The YMCA of Greater Rochester is pleased to share that thanks to support from Senator Jeremy Cooney (D-56th District) and New York State, more children of military families will have access to life-changing experiences at camp. With the passing of the latest NYS budget, $75,000 will be going to support our YMCA Camp Gorham’s efforts to support military families.
“We understand that military families are under enormous strain, so having additional funding from New York State be directed to help us support them is truly incredible,” said Ernie Lamour, President & CEO, YMCA of Greater Rochester. “I greatly appreciate Senator Cooney’s leadership in securing this crucial funding because I know how deeply he cares for our military families, as well as the programs we have at YMCA Camp Gorham.”
“Our nation’s heroes make sacrifices every day to protect our country, state, and their communities,” said Senator Jeremy Cooney. “It’s only right that we support their families back home, especially for those who were wounded during their service. That’s why I was proud to work with Governor Hochul, Senator Scarcella-Spanton, and my colleagues in the legislature to make this investment a reality for YMCA of Greater Rochester’s Camp Gorham and why I will always support their vital work to provide a positive, lasting impact on the children of military families.”
As an Armed Services YMCA, the YMCA of Greater Rochester is proud to provide more opportunities for children of active, fallen, wounded and disabled military. We know that when one parent is serving, the whole family serves; and when that parent returns with injuries, it takes a toll on kids and caregivers. Camp Gorham provides an opportunity for military kids to meet other kids that are in similar situations from all across the country, and enjoy all the magic of camp in the picturesque Adirondacks.
