Canandaigua, NY – The YMCA of Greater Rochester is proud to announce a partnership with Canandaigua National Bank & Trust to name the Child Watch and Adventure Center at the Sands Family YMCA. With their gift of $350,000, the area will be named the CNB Midway: Adventure Center and Child Watch.

“Canandaigua National Bank is proud to support the new, state-of-the-art YMCA,” said Vince Yacuzzo, Chief Financial Officer, Canandaigua National Bank & Trust, and YMCA member. “As a parent raising a young family, I realize how vital high-quality childcare and programs are for the kids in the community.”

Both of these spaces will be central in serving families at the Sands Family YMCA. Child Watch will be dedicated to younger children and feature soft play elements designed to stimulate learning and play. The Adventure Center will be for older kids and include a two-story climbing structure with slides and obstacles. Both areas will pay homage to a local icon – Roseland Park.

“Being able to celebrate the past while looking towards a new era of service in Canandaigua is something we’re very excited about,” said Jason Gottfried, Executive Director, Sands Family YMCA. “To have a local, community organization like Canandaigua National Bank & Trust join us and invest in our mission, speaks volumes about our shared commitment to families in our community.”

Canandaigua National Bank & Trust’s gift is crucial in helping the YMCA meet its $6 million fundraising goal in support of the creation of the Sands Family YMCA, named for the historic gift of $13.5 million from the Sands Family Foundation.

“I’m very proud of the fact that my grandmother, Francis, was the first woman to be on the Board of Directors of the YMCA,” said Frank Hamlin III, President & CEO, Canandaigua National Bank & Trust. “The Y has grown over time, just like we have, in order to meet the needs and the values of the community as the community has become more prosperous and will continue to be.”

The CNB Midway will serve families in new and different ways, meeting the ever-changing needs of families in the region. Both areas will create fun and safe environments for kids as parents focus on their health and wellness.

“For parents, Child Watch is the heart of the YMCA,” said Shantelle Luety, member of the Canandaigua Family YMCA. “It’s a huge part of my family being able to come to the Y, and there’s a ton of excitement around the new one. It’s only a matter of time before Child Watch and the Adventure Center is our new, second home.”

The Sands Family YMCA is set to open on October 2. Learn more about ways you can become involved and check out all our behind the scenes videos here.
