Rochester, NY – The YMCA of Greater Rochester and University of Rochester Medicine are bringing the mobile mammography van to locations throughout the City of Rochester and surrounding towns in an effort to provide accessible options for the community.
“We are proud to partner with the YMCA to bring essential breast screening services to women in our community through the UR Medicine mobile mammogram van,” said Leah Rossett, MD, Interim Breast Imaging Director, UR Medicine. “By making these screenings more accessible and convenient, we’re empowering women to take proactive control of their health and well-being, ensuring that they have the support they need to prioritize their health.”
For the past four years, the Y and UR Medicine have been partnering to bring Pink Classes to YMCA members in the month of October, culminating on National Mammography Day. These classes serve as a reminder for scheduling exams, but also to show the community of support that is at each YMCA of Greater Rochester location for anyone in the fight. Unfortunately, cancer is a year-round disease and the need for screenings isn’t limited to one month.
“It’s crucial for us to continue the conversation on the importance of screenings and share resources with our community and members throughout the year,” said Pam Cowan, Chief Experience Officer, YMCA of Greater Rochester. “We’ve had incredible success during our efforts in October; having the mobile mammography van at our Ys at other times throughout the year is another tremendous example of how the Y and UR Medicine can positively partner together for a healthier, stronger Rochester.”
The mammo van will be at various YMCA of Greater Rochester locations throughout the year. Appointments can be made directly through the URMC by calling 844-870-0002 or by emailing. Find where the mobile mammography van will be next at the YMCA of Greater Rochester online here.
