TRY IT: BARRE

YMCA STAFF SHARES EXPERIENCE TRYING GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES FOR THE FIRST TIME

Barre: a combination of yoga, Pilates, functional fitness, and ballet. I’ve done a bit of the first three…but ballet? Me?

Yes, me, Carly. And if I can do it, so can you! Lucy, the instructor, has years of experience teaching dance and is an easy instructor to follow. The ballet part was not as intimidating as I thought it would be – Lucy explains the feet positions and how the exercise translates into dance. She puts all the pieces together.

Lucy keeps the class moving along at a comfortable pace with stretching throughout the class. It felt amazing to work hard at a few moves, then stretch those muscles within a few minutes. This was my favorite part!

This is definitely a low-impact and adaptable class. No matter your ability, you can make the moves work for you and your body. Lucy is great at giving adaptions throughout the class so you’re not guessing at what to do. The transitions between moves were seamless and the music keeps it movin’ and groovin’.

I also love that it is a 45-minute class. We are all pressed for time, and the extra 15 really makes a difference when I needed to transition to my next task.

If you’re looking for a new class to mix up your strength workout, I highlight recommend Barre!
